Grand Canyon

Skywalk, is Arizona's newest and probably most controversial attraction. Since it's opening in march 2007 misconceptions about its location, logistics and cost have abounded, which has left some visitors with a less than favorable impression of the Grand Canyon.

You might be under the impression, that the Grand Canyon Skywalk is located near Grand Canyon Village. The truth is, it is a long way from Grand Canyon Village, and getting there is by no means easy.

The key to a positive experience with the Grand Canyon Skywalk is information about its location, what it takes to get there, and how much it will cost. Skywalk is located at Grand Canyon West, which is a native American tribal park owned and operated by the Hualapai Indian tribe, located about 3 hours from Las Vegas, NV.

At the present time, the primary access road into the tribal park isn't paved. Though it is regularly graded, it is still very bumpy and deeply ruded at some areas, especially after rain storms or snow storms. It is not a good idea to take a rental car on this road. The car rental company's insurance policy may become void as this is considered an "off road". Instead, you are better off taking advantage of the park and ride shuttle, offered near the turn off to Grand Canyon West, at Leap view.

Upon entering Grand Canyon West you will be required to pay several fees. A tribal park entry fee per person. This includes a rip-top narrated bus transfer. There is also a vehicle permit fee plus entrance fee to the Grand Canyon Skywalk. As a whole, this experience could end up costing you anywhere from 70 dollars to 90 dollars per person. If you wish to have meals or other activities, such as a Hummer excursion, or helicopter ride to the bottom of the canyon, that will cost extra, too. This might sound a bit of a hustle, that is why you might have a better time by taking part in one of the several package tours to Grand Canyon West, offered out of the Las Vegas area.
